Ready to take the next step in your chess journey? Join Josh Price for an engaging and beginner-friendly class designed to help players of all ages understand one of the most important skills in chess improvement: notation.
Josh Price is an Expert-rated player and an established coach within the Idaho chess community. Through years of tournament experience and teaching players of all skill levels, Josh has helped countless students build confidence, improve their understanding of the game, and prepare for competitive play.

In this class, you'll learn:

How to read and write chess notation How to record your games correctly during tournament play How notation helps you analyze and improve your chess How to follow chess books, lessons, and master games with confidence Essential tournament preparation for new competitors

This won't be just a lecture. Participants will have the opportunity to play practice tournament-style games while actively recording their moves using notation. Josh will guide players through the process, helping them become comfortable with tournament procedures and giving them hands-on experience they can immediately apply in rated competition.
Whether you're brand new to chess, a parent of a young player, or preparing for your first tournament, this class will provide practical skills that will accelerate your learning and make tournament chess more accessible.

Location: Online via Zoom

After registering, participants will receive the Zoom meeting link via email prior to the event.

What You'll Need

  • A chess set and board
  • A space near your computer where you can comfortably set up and play on your chessboard
  • Paper and a pencil or pen
  • A chess notation scoresheet is ideal, but regular paper will work just fine
  • A chess clock is recommended to create a more authentic tournament experience during practice games, though it is not required
